150 BIG ONES!
2011 marked a mile stone for, not only the sport of rowing in New Zealand, but for amateur sport generally. For it was then that the Canterbury Rowing Club, the oldest existing sports club of any sport in the country, celebrated its 150th anniversary - its sesquicentenary (wow, that's a big word).
Our club took part in celebrating this important occasion on the 16-18th September 2011. Our Jubilee Planning Committee, headed up by Eddie Martin, worked tirelessly to get in touch with rowers of the past to establish a database of members, coxes, coaches and everyone inbetween who had connections with the club over the years. The committee also managed the miraculous and sourced photos, regatta times and tales from this member database to pull together a book of the History of CRC from 1985-2011. The event was a great success and the book is a true testament to the passion and dedication of our members that still holds true today.
We have some books available, so if you would like to purchase one as a momento please get in touch below. The cost is $20 + $2 postage and limited numbers remaining so get in quick.
Also, if you have more photos or information to contribute to our image library please also feel free to send them through to our Club Secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org.
